Phoebe Ellen Dodds, 71, of St Augustine, passed away on July 13th, 2025.
Phoebe grew up in the Jersey shore towns of Sea Bright and Highlands, attending high school both there and on Cape Cod in Harwichport, Mass. She was trained as a chef and a counselor, using those skills in her work as a cook, sous chef, counselor and caregiver, ending her career at Arc of St Johns, where she worked for the past 11 years. Her varied skills brought her to several states, including many years in western Virginia mountains in Floyd, VA, Boston and Cape Cod in Massachusetts, Orlando and St Augustine in Florida.
Phoebe is survived by her brother Kevin Dodds of New Jersey, sister Mardi Ross of Florida, niece Patty Dodds, nephews Bill Dodds, Chris Van Horn, and Patrick Nunn, great-nephew Connor Horn, and great-niece Ruby Van Horn. Cousins are spread throughout the country. She had a special place in her heart for Chelsea Mathis and Jesse and Lennon Redford.
She was a member of Friends Meeting in Floyd, Virginia, having grown up in the Quaker faith. She asked to be remembered as a Magician, and I, for one, have always thought of her as able to create magic everywhere.
Memorials will be held in both St Augustine, Florida and Floyd, Virginia with dates to be announced.
The family extends a huge thank you to Dr. Gaurav Trikha, MD, and the staff at Cancer Specialists of North Florida www.cancerspecialistsnf.com in St Augustine for their tireless efforts in Phoebe's recovery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Arc of St John's, Inc., the non-profit where Phoebe lovingly served individuals with disabilities. www.arcsj.org
