Ramon Garcia Jr., beloved husband, father, and "Popo," went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2025. He was born on December 19, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the late Lina Lara and Ramon Garcia Sr.
After graduating from West Oso High School in 1964, Ramon enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving proudly for eight years as an aircraft mechanic during the Vietnam war.
In December 1963, at a dance hosted at the Corpus Christi Memorial Coliseum, Ramon met the love of his life, Rosalinda. Nervously, he asked the petite, pretty young lady in a red mid length skirt and matching red heels to dance-little did he know she would be his dance partner for life. When the night ended, he asked for her phone number but had nothing to write with, thinking quickly, he ran to his car and wrote it in the dew on his car window. Before leaving for military service, he proposed to Rosalinda, and the two were married on January 29, 1966.
After retiring from the Air Force, Ramon and Rosalinda settled in Victoria, where he worked for Union Carbide as an electrician for 28 years. A year into retirement-and after completing all of Rosalinda's "honey-do" projects-he returned to work for six more years as a maintenance technician at the University of Houston–Victoria.
Ramon's love language was acts of service for his family and friends. Whether fixing, repairing, building or replacing something, he showed his love through the work of his hands. There was nothing he couldn't fix, and he made sure everyone around him was cared for.
He loved cooking, baking, and barbecuing. From homemade bread to smoked brisket, no one ever left his home hungry. Ramon and Rosalinda loved traveling the world together, visiting the Holy Land, Rome, Paris, and Canada, enjoying cruises, and taking their annual road trips all over the United States with cousins.
A devout Catholic, Ramon served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He was also a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and took great pride in caring for and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ramon will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Rosalinda Saenz Garcia; his children, Sonia Cruz and Mario Garcia (Angelica); and his grandchildren, Kye Cruz, Mariah Garcia, Landon Cruz, Abby Garcia, and Aaden Garcia. He is also survived by his siblings Simona Sylvia Herrera (Gilberto), Marcelino Lara Jr. (Terry), Maria Elena Dominguez (David), and Pablo Lara (Rosie); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lina Lara, Marcelino Lara Sr. (stepfather), and Ramon Garcia Sr.; and by his brother, Reynaldo Lara.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 12:00 pm with a rosary at 12:15 pm and a funeral mass at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.
Pallbearers: Kye Cruz, Landon Cruz, Aaden Garcia, Pablo Lara, Marcelino Lara Jr., and Xavier Garcia.
