Raymond "Ray" Philip Freud, 92, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, in Moorestown, New Jersey.
Ray was born on August 6, 1932 in Mineola, New York to Philip and Amalie Freud. He graduated from Mount Hermon School in 1950 before attending Dartmouth College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1954. He then went on to earn a Masters in Business Management from Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business and a Masters of Industrial Engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering in 1955.
Ray began his career at Alcoa in 1955 in Edgewater, New Jersey before moving to Massena, New York. While living in Massena, Ray spent time in New York City where he met Sally Whitaker. They fell in love and were married in 1963 at Brick Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Ray's journey with Alcoa took them from Massena, New York to Port Lavaca, Texas, Paramaribo, Suriname, and finally Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His entrepreneurial spirit then led him to Moorestown, New Jersey to become the owner of Cherry Hill Builders Supply. He later founded Apple Kitchens, which he operated until his retirement in 2000.
Sally and Ray built a home on Lake George where they enjoyed summers with their extended family and many friends. Ray was an avid golfer and a skilled woodworker. Mostly, Ray loved home improvement projects. His engineering mind could figure out how to put in a door, build stone stairs, and create one of a kind furniture. He loved putting in time on these projects at their summer home and any time he was asked to help out with one of his kids' homes.
Ray was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown and the Putnam United Presbyterian Church in Putnam Station, New York. He was also a dedicated volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and The King's Garden at Fort Ticonderoga.
Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sally Whitaker Freud; his brother Paul Freud (Jennifer James); his children Eric Freud (Loretta), Carrie Corrigan (Tim), and Robert Freud (Melissa); and his grandchildren Aidan Freud, Alexander Freud (Katie O'Reilly), Jordan Freud, Patrick Freud, Declan Freud, and Finley Freud.
A celebration of life will be held at 11am on September 27, 2025 at the Chapel of the Evergreens,
309 Bridgeboro Rd. Moorestown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lake George Land Conservancy https://lglc.org/
or Habitat for Humanity https://www.habitat.org/
Ray's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his wisdom, generosity, and enduring love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
