Raymond William Hartz, 85, of Platteville, Wisconsin died on Friday, May 30, 2025. Ray was born June 24, 1939, in Platteville, Wisconsin, son of Willy and Lillian (Howell) Hartz. Ray was united in marriage to Mary Kehoe on September 3, 1966, in Lancaster, Wisconsin.
Ray worked on the family farm and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1957, ending as Lance Corporal. Ray worked for his father-in-law Joe Kehoe logging, moving houses with Horace Lester, and he spent the majority of his career as a propane delivery driver for various companies, including Northern Propane, and the last 20 plus years with Haskins Gas & Oil, and Premier Co-op. Ray enjoyed riding his Harley with Mary and their group of friends, enjoying his antique tractors, and taking trips out west and locally to the Rock River Thresheree, where he enjoyed the old steam power machines, antique tractors, and implements.
Ray is survived by his sons Douglas (Lisa) Hartz and Brian (Megan) Jeffers; four grandchildren, Will Hartz, Alex Hartz, Courtney (Mitch) Knockel, and Sam (Mariah) Jeffers; three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Mira, and Cecelia Jeffers; niece MaryAnn (Cliff) Greenwood, nephew John Hartz Jr., and great-niece Samantha Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents; brother, John Hartz; and grandson, Shane Jeffers.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, WI. The visitation will be from 10:00 AM to the time of the service. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke will officiate. Chapel Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Burial will be in Whig Cemetery.
