Raymond Roderick, 74, of Jones Creek, Texas passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday July 22, 2025 – just 1 week before his 75th birthday.
Born on July 29, 1950, in Union City, Michigan, to Marie Elise Rein and Andrew Edward Roderick, Ray grew up on the family farm before eventually making his way to Texas. He worked for many years as a truck driver, a path that led him to meet the love of his life, Sarah Elizabeth Hurta, whom he married on November 16, 1990. He spent the next 24 years loving her as a husband should-raising and loving her children as his own. He stopped trucking and piddled around with different things like construction and air conditioning before settling in as the Logistics Coordinator at Muchowich Offshore Oil Services where he worked until his retirement in June 2024.
Ray was known for his easygoing nature and youthful spirit. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He loved his family and friends, fast cars, guns, cooking and beautiful women (and not necessarily in that order). His warm presence and sense of humor will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sarah; parents Andrew & Betty; mother-in-law Dolores Ray King; and father-in-law Edward Hurta Jr.; sisters Mary Brigham, Judi Nesmith & Meriellen Smith; and brother-in-law Ralph Kern.
His memory lives on with his children: Earl (Tiffany) McCarroll; Shanon (Januari) McCarroll; & Jahala (Jonothan) Leal; 16 grandchildren: Makayla (Ryan) Swilley; Jaden (Ashley) Wall, Mackenzie Moss, Michael (Sadie) Rodriquez, Kennedy McCarroll, Kyleigh McCarroll, Journie Wall, Melanie Hill, ChloeBeth Rodriquez, Jessa Wall, Sara McCarroll, Catie McCarroll, Mason McCarroll, Ava McCarroll, Harlie Leal & Jaxton Leal; great grandchildren: Ryan Kate & Parker Swilley; sisters: Lorraine Kern & BettyAnn (John) Wilson; brothers: Edward (Tina) Roderick & Richard Roderick; brother-in-law: John (Judi) Nesmith; sister-in-law: Debbie (Ronnie) Miller, brother-in-laws: Ed (Dawn) Hurta III, & Robert (Elicha) Hurta; plus many nieces, nephews, and tons of friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for family and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the public at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, Texas.
The funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, also at Stroud Funeral Home, proceeding to Jones Creek Cemetery where Ray will be laid to rest beside his beloved Sarah.
Pallbearers will be his sons Earl & Shanon McCarroll, son-in-law Jonothan Leal, brother-in-law Robert Hurta, and nephews Ralph Goodwin and Cody Roderick.
