Richard G. Gilliam, 74, of Blaine, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Springfield, Ohio, to Emery and Esta (Burchwell) Gilliam. At the age of 19, Richard was drafted into the Army. He proudly served his country and was a devoted Army veteran. After his military service, he began his career as a machinist.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Raymond Gilliam, Roger Gilliam, Ronald Gilliam, and sister Reva McOsker. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Gloria (Mollette) Gilliam, one sister, Rowena Price, his children, Brian (Cyndie) Gilliam, Jennifer (Brian) Tuttle and Brad Gilliam, his six grandchildren, Elijah (Alaina) Tuttle, Casie (Stephen) Zierhart, Kyla Tuttle, Brianna Gilliam, Matthew Gilliam, and Logan Gilliam, and one great granddaughter, Eleanor Tuttle.

Richard will be remembered for his love of tinkering in the workshop, his creative spirit, his ability to fix anything, love of his animals, especially his cats Snow and SiFi and his generosity. He found joy in building and fixing things, always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed helping and spending time with Chester and Tonya Slone at their greenhouse. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.

The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care and support provided by the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center and Community Hospice, Ashland, Kentucky.

Care for Richard and his family has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.

Graveside Service with Military Honors will be conducted at Yatesville Memorial Gardens, Louisa, Kentucky, at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Richard's memce.ory to a veterans' organization of your choice.

It was an honor and privilege over the past 10 years to have had the opportunity to care for one of the sweetest souls that I have ever met. His face would light up when he would talk about and share photos of his cats and all of his pets. He loved to talk about his "creations" that he would invent in his workshop. I think his greatest joy was always keeping his wife, Gloria on her toes with all of his antics and grass cutting adventures. Mr Gilliam will be deeply missed as will all of his wonderful stories. Prayers and love to his beautiful wife Gloria and his sweet family.

It was truly an honor to care for one of the kindest souls I´ve ever known. A proud veteran and a gentle spirit, he left a lasting impression on everyone who met him-including me. I´m so deeply grateful to have crossed paths with him and to have met his wonderful, loving family.

I´m glad he made it home to see his cats again-Snow, Sifi, and the rest were lucky to have him as their pet parent. His strength, warmth, and kindness will never be forgotten.
