Richard Holifield passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Simpson General Hospital. He was born on August 5, 1949, to Debs Holifield and Margie Sumrall Holifield in Laurel, MS.
Rick is retired from a career in banking at Priority One Bank. His ministry was through singing. Throughout his life, he served many churches as minister of music. Some of them are Goodwater Baptist Church, Whitesand Baptist, Shady Grove in Laurel, MS, Trinity Baptist in Laurel, MS, and numerous churches in Jones and Simpson counties. He loved gospel music, and singing with the Covenant Quartet for thirteen years was one of his greatest honors.
One of Rick's favorite's hobbies was fishing. He would cast a reel anywhere he thought they were biting. He equally enjoyed eating them at Berry's Seafood and Southfork Fish House in Magee as well. But the greatest love of all was serving the Lord and sharing that love with his children and grandchildren. He loved them and enjoyed spending time with them more than anything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Debs and Margie Sumrall Holifield; brothers, Wilmer Warren Holifield and Robert A. "Bob" Holifield; and one sister, Jane Elizabeth Adkins.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Wylene Holifield; son, Allen Holifield (Courtney); daughters, April Richardson and Barbara Savage (Brad); sister, Rosemary Holifield Myrick Garst (Bobby Lee); and four grandchildren, Riley Tate Richardson, Penelope Holifield, Luke Holifield, and Rowdy Holifield.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS at 12:00 pm with visitation from 10:00 am until time of service. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurel, MS.
Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
