Richard LeRoy Senecaut, 78, of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 30, 2025.
Rich was born January 5, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Ruth and Raymond Senecaut.
Rich graduated from Tech High School in 1965. After high school, he joined the Marine Corps in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged in 1969. During his service, he received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Marksman's Badge, and a Purple Heart. Rich then went on to attend Des Moines Area Community College, earning an associate's degree in Arts and Science.
Rich married Janet Lee Casady on June 13, 1970 in Des Moines, Iowa. They settled in Norwalk, Iowa where they raised their three children. Rich worked for AMF for 16 years and then as a mental health counselor until he retired in 2010. Rich especially loved playing guitar, drawing, and painting.
Remaining to cherish Rich's memory are his wife Janet; children, Angie (Michael) Pauscher, Jason (Kim) Senecaut, Adam Senecaut; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Hansen of New Hampton.
Preceding Rich in death are his parents, Ruth and Raymond Senecaut; and sisters, Linda Short and Nancy Senecaut.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Iles Norwalk Chapel in Norwalk, Iowa. A small graveside ceremony will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 403.
Memorial donations in Rich's memory may be directed to The Parkinson's Foundation.
