Ricky Kennon will officiate. Richard will be laid to rest at Dry Creek Cemetery in Dry Creek immediately following his services.
Richard's family will receive friends and visitors at the Pentecostals of Mittie church on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 5 to at 8 o'clock p.m. Richard's visitation will resume at the Pentecostals of Mittie church on Monday morning June 30, 2025, from 8 o'clock a.m. until time of service. All of Richard's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oberlin.
Richard, affectionately called Darrell by all who knew him, was born in Oberlin, Louisiana on January 12, 1946, to the union of Delmer and Neva Singleton. He loved and cared for his family. Darrell lived a life of service to his country, his community, and his church. He was very proud of being a firefighter for 34 years. In Darrell's first four years of the workforce, he was a firefighter in the United States Air Force where he served in Alaska and Delaware during the Vietnam War. He and his unit provided fire protection to planes carrying the wounded to American bases. After his time in the Air Force, Darrell protected Fort Polk Army Base as a civilian firefighter for 25 years and earned the rank of Captain. After his well-deserved retirement, Darrell was appointed to the organizing board of Allen Parish Fire District 3 in the late 1990's. He was instrumental in organizing an operating fire district covering northwest Allen Parish and was the district's first fire chief. Darrell volunteered for many, many hours to build a rural fire district from nothing as well as serving for 12 years as a board member of Dry Creek Cemetery Association. Darrell was a lifelong Christian who held several church board positions as a faithful member of the Pentecostals of Mittie. When he was younger, he was an often-requested vocalist singing church hymns. Darrell often remembered the good times when he would sing with his mother. He will be forever missed and unconditionally loved by all who knew.
Those left to cherish Darrell's memory include his wife of fifty-eight years, Lila Singleton; three daughters, Shannon Campbell (Freddy) of Dry Creek, Kimberlyn Montou (Joseph) of Deridder, Lacey Singleton of Kinder, one son, Kevin Singleton of Kinder; six grandchildren, Aiden, Ashton, Kyla, Lathan, Joshua, and Ethan; one brother, Larry Singleton of Kinder; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents Delmer and Neva Singleton.
Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be shared with Darrell's family at www.ardoinfuneralhome.com or on Facebook-Ardoin/Allen Parish Funeral Homes.
