Ricky Lane Gilreath, 67, of Edgewood, Texas, passed away on July 11, 2025, in Tyler, Texas.
Born on August 8, 1957, in Dallas, Texas, Ricky was the son of Roy W. Gilreath and Dollie Gilreath. He graduated from W.W. Samuel High School in 1974 and soon after answered the call to serve his country. From 1975 to 1979, he proudly served in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life that shaped his enduring sense of duty and loyalty.
Following his military service, Ricky embarked on a diverse and dedicated professional journey. He worked for Southland Corporation and later with Dallas Area Rapid Transit before finding his calling as a Land Consultant at Legacy Field Services. His work ethic and commitment were evident throughout his career.
Ricky was deeply rooted in community and service. A proud member and trustee of Wylie Memorial VFW Post 6635, he remained actively involved in supporting fellow veterans and honoring their shared experiences.
Outside of work and service, Ricky found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and raising goats, embracing the rhythms of farm life with enthusiasm. Whether tending to animals or casting a line into quiet waters, he found peace in nature's company. Above all else, he cherished time spent with friends and family.
Those who knew Ricky remember him as generous, stubborn in the best way, and fiercely protective of those he cared about. His presence was steady-a source of strength for many.
He is survived by his daughters Sarah Elfers and Melissa Dee; his son Roy Christopher Gilreath; and grandchildren Zoe King, Steven Dee, Roy Christopher Gilreath, Jr., Austin Gilreath, Shelby Gilreath, Summer Gilreath, and Brooklyn Gilreath.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents Roy W. Gilreath and Dollie Gilreath; his brother James Owens; his granddaughter Natasha Gilreath; his son-in-law Bryan Elfers; and extended family members.
A memorial service honoring Ricky's life will be held at Wylie Memorial VFW Post 6635 on August 9, 2025, time to be determined.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who carry forward his legacy of service, resilience, and love for family.
