Robert Chowning Obituary

Robert L. Chowning, 83, of Richmond died Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Richmond.
Robert was born on May 15, 1942, in Richmond, the son of Jim Chowning. He was united in marriage to Donia Lee Clark on August 15, 1959; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include: sons, Bobby (Robin) Chowning, Mike (Julie) Chowning; daughters, Carla (Earl) Pratt, Karen McMillian, Shelly (Chris) Weisz, Leta Davis; 12 grandchildren; Bert (Kyla), Megan (Ryan), Lisa, Kristen (Conner), Kadee, Caleb (Alaze), Emily, Lyndsey (Adrian), Isabella, Nick, Adriona (Michael), Trevor and 9 great-grandchildren, Marlee, Bradyn, Preston, Brynlee, Sophie, Carter, Lilly "Sissy", Kamrynn, Beckham.
He was preceded in death by his father, wife and grandchildren Luke and Elizabeth Chowning.
Robert was a devoted automotive mechanic and a hardworking man who dedicated his life to serving others through his craft. He spent 39 years with the Wollard Motor Company and another 30 years at Swafford Ford Sales. Later, he continued his work with the Richmond School District. Known for his steady hands and strong work ethic, Robert was respected by colleagues and customers alike. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Robert found his greatest joy in spending time with his family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren, who brought endless pride and happiness into his life.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, in Richmond.
