Robert Familiar Obituary

Robert G. Familiar, resident of LeisureTowne, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 93 at Samaritan Inpatient Hospice in Mount Holly NJ. Born on July 31, 1931, in Troy, NY, Bob was a man who lived a life marked by dedication & service. His legacy will continue to resonate with all who knew him.
Bob's early life in Troy was the foundation of his strong character and work ethic. After high school, he answered the call of duty and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and later continued his service through the Naval Aviation School.
Following his military service, Bob transitioned into a career with the Albany State Police Forensic Lab, where he demonstrated his keen eye for detail. After many years of diligent work, Bob retired as a Clinical Research Administrator from Galaxo Smith Kline. There, he contributed to the advancement of medicine and the betterment of public health.
Above all, Bob's heart belonged to Alice Lekas. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with deep affection, mutual respect, and cherished moments. Together, they navigated life's ups and downs, always supporting each other and celebrating their journey as partners.
Bob was an avid pool player, relishing the strategy and skill involved in the game. His presence at the pool table will be deeply missed by his friends and fellow enthusiasts. As we say farewell to Robert G. Familiar, we celebrate a life well-lived. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who loved him.
Preceded in death by his mother Caroline Gangi and his father Joseph Familiar. Left to cherish Bob's memory is his sister Carolyn Film, children, Jo Ann (Mitch) Robert (Mandy) Patricia, Paul (Dawn) Grandchildren, Alison (Kevin) Kathleen (Nikki) Erin (Kevin) William (Andrea) Rachel (Michael) Hannah (Kevin) Ariana (Anderson) Robert (Annie) Jay & Nine great grandchildren, and many cousins. His loving partner Alice's children, Victor (Wendy) Carol (Paul) Diana (James) and grandchildren, Russel (Maggie) Alexander and Anna.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, immediately followed by the funeral service, both at Mathis Funeral Home, 58 N. Main Street, Medford, NJ. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery in Medford, NJ.
