Robert Carl "Bob" McGrath, affectionately known as Gruffo, passed away on June 29, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on April 22, 1948, to the late Harrington and Dorothy (nee Johnson) McGrath, Gruffo's childhood in the Cramer Hill section of Camden was filled with joy.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Linda McGrath (nee Pitcher), who was the love of his life and his steadfast companion. Together, they raised a family that includes daughter, Melissa McHugh (Thomas), son, Daniel McGrath, and daughter, Jessica McGrath (Eric Bialecki); his cherished grandchildren, Nolan McHugh, Grace McHugh, and Matthew McGrath; he is survived by his sister, Patricia McDougal, his Aunt Betty, and several nieces and nephews. Also, his true friend and confidant, Walter "Dusty" Carroll (Elizabeth), was like a brother to him. Bob was preceded in death by his sister, BettyLou Cassidy, and his parents.
Bob was a skilled forklift mechanic who lived in Runnemede, NJ, and took immense pride in his ability to fix almost anything.
Music was one of Bob's greatest passions. He was an avid fan of the Eagles, Grateful Dead, Beach Boys, and Allman Brothers. His rendition of "Cripple Creek" by The Band was a heartfelt tribute he often sang to his wife. His love for history was matched by his enthusiasm for restoring classic cars, and he was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. Bob's connection to nature was evident in his joy of feeding the birds and taking road trips, with Batsto Village being a favorite destination.
Bob loved jokes and had an innate ability to make people laugh. His home was filled with the companionship of many pets over the years, and his dogs and cats were an integral part of his daily life.
Described by those who knew him as generous, handy, and funny, Bob's presence was a gift to all. His spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Bob's family will be celebrating his life privately. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to: Animal Orphanage, 419 Cooper Road, Voorhees, NJ 08043 / vaonj.org
