Robert Emmett McMahon, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on September 4, 1924, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, Robert was a testament to the values and virtues of the greatest generation. His life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to his family, community, and country.
A proud veteran of World War II, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his nation with distinction. His sense of duty and patriotism was a guiding force throughout his life. Following his military service, Robert pursued higher education and earned a bachelor's degree in business, setting the stage for a successful career. As the General Manager of the largest beverage distribution company in Western Massachusetts, he was known for his leadership and dedication.
In 1955, Robert married Nancy, the love of his life. Together, they celebrated 70 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Family was Robert's greatest pride; he and Nancy raised six wonderful children: Sue (Sommer), Bo, Kevin, Laurie (Webb), Mike, and Tim. His legacy lives on through them, and he took immense joy in their accomplishments and happiness.
Robert was actively involved in his community, reflecting his sincere Christian faith. He was a devoted member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in West Springfield, Massachusetts, and attended Epiphany Catholic Church in Lake City, Florida. His kindness, generosity, and optimism were felt by all who knew him; he was always ready to lend a helping hand.
His family and friends remember him as a man who put his family first, and his love for them was evident in every aspect of his life. His wife, Nancy, survives him, along with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who carry forward his spirit and values.
Funeral services for Robert will be broadcast live at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 16, presided by his nephew, Father Chris Tozzi. As we gather to honor his life, we are reminded of him saying, "Old sailors never die, they just fade away." Although Robert's physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit and love remain in our hearts forever.
