Robert Eugene Smith of Buffalo Valley was born on October 28, 1944, and passed away on Wednesday, July 9 at the age of 80 at his home peacefully. Robert was the eldest of 4 sons to the late Ernest Eugene Smith and Mamie Loraine Smith. He was a long-time resident of Buffalo Valley, TN.
Mr. Smith served in the United States Army, was a highly skilled craftsman as a Superintendent for Hardaway Construction Company for over 30 years, and was a beloved son, father, and grandfather. He contributed to overseeing construction projects for some of Nashville's well- known landmarks such as Belmont University, Lipscomb University, and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
During his retirement years, he loved spending time with his family, gardening, and working outdoors.
He is survived by his only child, daughter, Robin Vongsamphanh (Chanthavy), grandsons Benjamin, Nicholas, and Andrew Vongsamphanh; granddaughter, Jacqueline Vongsamphanh; special friend Georgia Burk and his last surviving brother, James Smith of Lascassas.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Eugene Smith and Mamie Loraine Smith, brothers Lee Smith and Richard Smith.
Robert was a faithful attendee of the Chestnut Mound Fellowship Church and where he retained membership until his death.
Mr. Smith was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home and following cremation at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood, he will be buried in a private family service.
