Roger James Marchand, age 83, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at his home in Sterling Heights. Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He always placed his family first.
He was born June 9, 1942 the son of George & Magdalen (Peters) Marchand in Detroit. Roger met the love of his life Catherine Coury while attending St. Charles Borromeo High School and they were married September 1, 1962 in Detroit. Roger was a devoted father to his children Mark (Bregetta), Renee (Donald), Linda (Jon), Sheryl (William), and Susan (Matthew). He was a loving grandfather to Adam (Shela), Catherine (Ismael), Caroline, Emily, Mark Nicholas, Noah, Gavin, Faith, and Katherine. He is preceded in death by his wife and his parents, his brother George (Norma), and sister Anne (Gerald). He is survived by his brother Daniel (Rosemary).
Roger was a mechanic for Chrysler where he worked for more than 40 years. He loved classic cars and didn't miss the Harper or Woodward classic car cruises. He could identify the year, make, and model of any classic car on the road and often had a humorous story to go with it. He loved rock and roll music from the 1950's and 1960's, and that music is now embedded in the hearts of his children. He was also a sports fanatic. He loved hockey and football and followed his teams throughout the year from high school through professional leagues. He enjoyed the Great Lakes especially Huron and Superior. Many family vacations were enjoyed in Oscoda on the shores of Lake Huron. He was an avid card player and loved euchre, pinochle, cribbage, and recently learned Skip-Bo to play with his grandkids. He loved camping, sudoku, crossword puzzles, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy, all of which he shared with his children and grandchildren. Roger's boundless energy, wonderful sense of humor, and unconditional love will be forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
