Michael Ayers Obituary

Michael Thomas Ayers, 62, passed away peacefully on Oct. 4, 2025, in Brunswick, Maine, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's.

Michael was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Michael Orin and Sylvia Sue Ayers. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as an artillery scout and in the U.S. Navy as a small arms instructor for the Seabees. An entrepreneur and teacher at heart, Michael owned a painting business in the Berkshires, taught martial arts, youth boxing, and self-defense, and practiced myotherapy. He will be remembered for his integrity, humor, craftsmanship, and generous spirit.

Michael is survived by his former wife Angelina Ayers; daughters Stephanie, Rachel, Julia, and Annelise Ayers; stepmother RuthAnn Ayers; siblings Adam Ragel, Claire Ayers, Sarah Ayers-Eck, Shayne Squires, and Sherri Hiatt-who, along with her husband Thomas Hiatt, cared for Michael as his illness progressed. He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces Tori Osterhout and Amber Bloomberg, extended family, and lifelong friend Scott Weinreb.

Donations in Michael's memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or to the Elizabeth Freeman Center.

I am another friend from the Berkshires - remembering him; reflecting on a life lived but concluded too soon. Deeply moved by the graciousness and love of Sherri and Thomas who cared for him. May the void of his absence in family and friends be filled with the grace and comfort of our Creator.

For more than two decades, Michael lived with Parkinson's. Through it all, he continued to work out and share his love of the martial arts. He maintained his quick wit and amazing sense of humor till the very end. Thankful he and Dad are hanging out and no longer suffering.
