Ronald M. “Ron” Fridolfson, 83 of Rutland, passed away peacefully on Monday morning July 7, 2025 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Ron was born October 19, 1941 in Georgetown, Minnesota to Ralph and Ruth (Dowling) Fridolfson. He moved with his family at a young age to Humboldt County spending time in the Otho area. He attended school in both Humboldt and Rutland, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1959.
After working for a few years as a truck driver for Dick Marso Trucking, Ron enlisted in the United States Army and served as a crew chief in helicopter maintenance. While stationed in Germany, he met Waltraud “Bridgett” Matheis and the two were married on June 7, 1963. During his military service, Ron was stationed in Germany, at Fort Hood in Texas and in Korea.
After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1969, he and Bridgett made their home in Rutland where they farmed and raised hogs. They also owned and operated the Rutland Meat Locker for many years.
Ron also worked for Iowa Public Service, which later became MidAmerican Energy, serving as Union Steward until his retirement in 2010 after 34 years.
A proud American, lifelong member of the VFW, and dedicated family man, Ron found joy in restoring his Ford tractors, fishing, raising horses and refurbishing horse-drawn carriages. He especially treasured time spent with his family on the farm.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Bridgett of Rutland, sons Alfred (Deborah) and Andreas (Lisa) Fridolfson both of Humboldt, daughter Ramona (Paul) Hundertmark of Ottosen, grandchildren; Fred, Michelle, Mitchell, Miranda, Jamie, Brittani, Melissa, Danniela and Zachary, 19 great-grandchildren, honorary brother Steve Anderson and many extended family members across the United States an in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tom and Randell Fridolfson, sister Ruthie Cox and granddaughter Griffin Ferguson.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday July 11th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery. www.masonlindhart.com
