Ronald Lee Holcomb, known affectionately as Ron by his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the University of Michigan, Sparrow Campus. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 203 E. First North St., Laingsburg, MI 48848. Pastor Lonnie Kellogg will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service. A private interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Born on May 7, 1948, in St. Johns, Michigan, Ron was a cherished son to Lyle Lee and Janice Lucille (Hartt) Holcomb. His early years in Laingsburg shaped a life marked by dedication, love, and service, which he carried with him until his last days.
Ron graduated from Laingsburg High School in 1966, and shortly thereafter, he embarked on a distinguished 30-year career in the United States Navy, serving his country with honor and pride from 1967 to 1997. His commitment to his nation was mirrored in his personal life, where he was known for his tireless work ethic.
Following his military service, Ron continued to serve his community as a United States Post Office worker for a decade and as a diligent security guard for Lake Trust Federal Credit Union in Lansing.
Ron's life was enriched by the love of his family. He married his beloved wife, Sandra, on June 24, 2006, at the Laingsburg Church of the Nazarene, and together they created a blended family full of warmth and joy. He was a devoted father to Peter (Vernessa) Holcomb, Eric (Dana) Holcomb, and Bethann Kampf, and a proud grandfather to five grandchildren. His role as a stepfather to James (Julie) Wilson, David Wilson, Robert Wilson, and Laura (Ed) Faust, and step-grandfather to ten step-grandchildren, was equally cherished. Ron's brother, Roger (Grace) Holcomb, along with several nieces and nephews, also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ethel Newkirk, and brother, Roy Holcomb.
Ron's generosity was endless. While he never hunted himself, he took great pleasure in helping his family and friends process their deer each year, simply because he was giving. Although his dream of buying an RV and traveling the country remained unfulfilled, his life was a journey of a different kind-a journey of kindness, generosity, and selflessness that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Those who knew Ron will remember him as a man who was always ready to lend a hand, who met every challenge with determination and grace, and who valued the simple joys of being with family and friends. His legacy is one of unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his country, and of a life lived with honor and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Laingsburg American Legion, 1240 W. Grand River Rd., Laingsburg, MI 48848.
