With heavy hearts and loving memories, the family of Ronald Lappinga of Park Rapids announces his peaceful passing on July 3, 2025.
Born in Los Angeles, California, to John and Julia Lappinga, Ron was the eldest of four children raised in a close-knit Dutch Reform community in Redlands, California. He pursued a career in nursing, earning his degree as an RN and dedicating himself to patient care at San Bernardino County Hospital. It was there that Ron met Jane Churchill, a medical intern who would become the love of his life. They were married on February 14, 1970, in Dorset, Minnesota, beginning a beautiful and enduring partnership.
Ron and Jane built a life grounded in love, faith, and mutual respect. Jane, now Dr. Jane Churchill, and Ron shared decades of laughter, resilience, and support-an unwavering foundation that stood through life's joys and challenges.
Throughout his nursing career, Ron worked at the Heritage Living Center, St. Joseph's Hospital, and Ah-Gwah-Ching- a long-term care facility where his compassion and humor made him beloved by both colleagues and patients. Later, with a deep devotion to his family, he chose to be at home as his two children entered their teenage years. During this chapter, Ron embraced the outdoors and developed a thriving herd of beef cattle, spending many peaceful hours on the land.
Ron was a one-of-a-kind soul-eccentric, humorous, and always ready with a joke that could brighten any room. Beneath his playful spirit was a man anchored by faith and deeply devoted to his family. His greatest joy came from being a father and grandfather. He cherished every moment with his children, Beth and Chad, and Paul and Kristy. His love for his grandchildren- ¬Isaac, Owen, and Janis- was boundless and unconditional.
Ron's kindness, laughter, and radiant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered not only for his wit but for the genuine care and love he shared with those around him. His legacy is woven through every life he touched-with grace, humor, and heartfelt devotion.
A Memorial Service will be held at Cease Funeral Home of Park Rapids Saturday, July 12 at 2:00 pm with a visitation an hour prior.
