Roy Soloman Perry, 78 of Salem, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born March 22, 1946 in Auto, WV, he was a son of the late William Soloman and Mary Glendora Medley Perry.
Roy was a retired civil servant with the Department of Defense, an ordained Deacon in service to our Lord, and a member of Grace Baptist Church, in Floyd County, VA. Roy was also an accomplished artist and avid hunter.
Roy graduated from Frankford High School in 1964 and was a Graduate of Concord College in Athens, WV in 1969, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. While at Concord College he was a member of Kappa Delta Phi honor society, Art Club, Men's Hall Council, and was the recipient of the Key of Excellence award for citizenship. Roy was also a U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Barry Perry and Daniel Perry.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Sharon Kay Perry; a daughter, Rebecca Purdy and son, Gerald Perry; two grandchildren, Joshua Purdy and Cassandra Purdy; and two brothers, Garry Perry and Phillip Perry. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Woodland Community Church in Auto, WV, with Pastor Mark Gillenwater officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Woodland Community Church Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm just prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Flowers will be accepted, but donations may also be made to the Woodland Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 164, Renick, WV 24966 for upkeep of the cemetery.
