Ruby Ann Chacon, 50 

 Ruby passed away suddenly on February 2, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ruby was born in Roswell, New Mexico, to Tommy Armendariz and Elvia Chacon on November 22, 1974. 

Ruby was vibrant and remembered for her infectious laughter and deep compassion for others. Her career began in cosmetology, a testament to her creativity, where she worked for 12 glorious years as a unique professional nail artist. Following this, she made an impactful transition to the Eastern Regional Housing Authority. Here, Ruby dedicated 18 years of service as a Housing Director, earning numerous certificates from both the Government and the State of New Mexico. Known as an accomplished Project Coordinator, Ruby’s true passion was helping those around her. 

 A mom so strong, she'd stand and fight, who crossed their paths, day or night. 

 

She’d walk away with a graceful spin, 

Like an 85” Cinderella win. 

 A grandma with a heart that sparkled like a star; her warmth felt deep, both near and far. 

 Not only a legend in sculpted nails 

Her voice carried like an angel. 

 Her athletic talents, shared with cheer, which 

Created memories we all hold so dear. 

 Dreams of twirling her baton up high, 

Adding sparkles to the CTR sky. 

 Some of us know her as Shy Love, who lit up lives like a Balboa night. 

 With the challenges of life, she kept the beat, 

A friend so tough you couldn’t defeat. 

Leading with a swing and grace, 

Handling it all with a smile on her face. 

 Living a tough life, she was 

A loyal sister, with all her might, who would hug after a fight. 

 Her story lives in our hearts. She is now at peace with her son, watching over us as we heal. 

 Ruby is preceded in death by her beloved son Anthony “AO” Ornelas; Father, Tommy Armendariz; Father-in-law, Joe Mendez; Godfather, Albert Lucero; Grandparents, Ysmael “Granpo” & Mary Q. “Mom” Andazola, Tony and Esmerita Armendariz; Aunt Patty Andazola; Cousins, Chico Madril, and Rosamaria Villanueva; Dear Friends, Tena Murfin, Jack “Jackie” Maintenance Man, and including her cherished pet, Simba. 

She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness in her surviving family: 

Siblings: Vanessa Royalty (Roswell, NM), S’Lena and husband Brad Lyttle (TN), Jesse Armendariz (TX) Daughter: Carizma Renee Mendez (Roswell, NM) Grandchildren: Aria, Amelia, Aziel, and Arlo Godchildren: Xavier C. Reese, Kielii Renae Chacon, and Alyza Mendez Nieces and Nephews: Crystal R., Mia R., Calvin T., and Ezra A. 

 

A Rosary will take place at St. John’s Catholic Church on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Mass Memorial Services will be held the following day on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, followed by the burial of cremated remains at South Park Cemetery. 

 Pallbearers include Carizma Mendez, Vanessa Royalty, S’Lena Lyttle, Xavier Reese, Nano “Marcus” Madril, Rudy Andazola, Emily Lucero, and Toy Madril. Honorary pallbearers include Crystal Ruby Renee Reese, Irene Murillo, Alyza Mendez, Bill Stotts, Patty Caps, Liz Dominguez, Elza Mendez, and Carol Hensley. 

 In Ruby's honor, the family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and love from friends and the community. Ruby touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever be cherished.
