Ruth Ellen Brown Sharpe Crews was born on February 15, 1930, in Booker, Texas, and passed away on March 4, 2025, at the sweet age of 95. She moved to Roswell, New Mexico, with her second husband, airman Marvin Henry Crews, in the spring of 1965 after the passing of her first husband, Wayne Leon Sharpe of Salina, Kansas. She entered her first year of a life-long love of teaching, spending most of her career as a first-grade teacher at Missouri Avenue Elementary School. Scores of you may well remember Mrs. Crews and her focused efforts to teach the youngsters of Roswell how to read. Upon retirement, she eventually picked up the hobby of making bookmarks, providing thousands to local schools and libraries even into the last week of her life. A longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, she worked in the library, extending her love of reading and books there as well.
The only services offered as memorial will be the memory some of you will have in your hearts and minds of a woman dedicated to the written words offered in books or deep soulful laughter emitted from her lips at the calamities of life-a gift from her late father, Charles Richard Brown, of Booker, Texas, a dry-land wheat farmer and first John Deere Implement dealer in the Texas Panhandle, who taught her to laugh heartily after the settling of a tragic day...probably the secret of reaching a ripe 95 years of life or surviving a season of her favored Dallas Cowboys!
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Henry Crews; a daughter, Barbara Joy Miller; a granddaughter, Jennifer Nicole Noles, all of Roswell, New Mexico; and a grandson, Ismael Torres III, of El Paso, Texas.
She is survived by daughters Bonnie Gayle Nash, of Nash Island, Connecticut, and Karen Marie Day, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sons Mark Nelson Crews of El Paso, Texas, and Richard Wayne Sharpe, of Roswell, New Mexico; grandchildren, Michael Nash, of Nash Island, Connecticut, Vanessa Crews, of San Francisco, California, and Shelby Miller, of Roswell, New Mexico; and great-grandchildren, Stella Wheeler Nash and Nicole Rose Nash, of Nash Island, Connecticut.
The family wishes her all blessings and peace. She passed as a child of Christ, reborn through his loving gift of salvation and eventual resurrection. In Him lies our hope of a blessed eternity.
