Ruth Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 6, 2025.
Ruth Marie Johnson, known affectionately to all as Ruth, embarked on her final adventure on June 30, 2025, at the spry age of 97. With the same grace and poise with which she lived her life, Ruth peacefully passed away of natural causes in the sunny comfort of Fort Pierce, Florida, a long way from the Patterson, New Jersey streets where her story began on April 2, 1928.
Ruth's early years were filled with the kind of mischief and laughter that would set a precedent for the rest of her life. Her wit was as sharp as her knitting needles-both of which she wielded with expert precision. Her intricate knits and crafts have indeed wrapped generations in warmth and love.
Ruth was graced by the lifetime company of her beloved spouse, Gordon Johnson. Ruth was also preceded in death by her cherished granddaughter, Anita Roth, whose spirit no doubt was waiting with open arms and a mischievous grin to welcome her grandmother.
Ruth's legacy is carried on by her two daughters, Brenda (James) Roth and Deborah (Teddy) Jones, who not only inherited their mother's resilience and humor but also her hard work ethic. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren recall how 'Granny Ruth' turned every get-together into an impromptu comedy club, with her stories often spiced with a dash of embellishment for extra flavor.
Jimmy (Leah) Roth, Steven (Kalyn) Roth, and Robert (Paige) Devling-her grandsons-knew that a visit to Granny's house would involve a masterclass in the art of practical jokes and the importance of laughing at oneself. Her twelve great-grandchildren: Nathan (Makayla), Devin (Shay), James, Brionna, Anthony, Chloe, Elizabeth, Kylo, Caspian, Mark, Christopher, and Lucas, and her great-great-grandchild, Nathan, will carry her spirit of creativity and courageousness.
Ruth's bookshelves were as colorful as her anecdotes, overflowing with novels that fueled her imagination. Her reading glasses were her window to other worlds.
To say Ruth was a character is an understatement. She was a whirlwind of joy, a force of nature, and a woman who lived life on her own terms. Her tale is one of laughter, love, and a zest for life that could outshine the sun. Her punchline was that she lived fully, laughed loudly, and left a legacy of joy that will echo through generations.
So, let's not say goodbye to Ruth Marie Johnson. Instead, let's celebrate a life well-lived and chuckle at the memories, just as she would want us to do.
