Litchfield – Ruth (Ba) (Synnott) O'Neill, 81, formerly of Waterbury, passed away on Friday, January 24.
Ruth was born in Waterbury on July 17, 1943, daughter of the late John and Ruth (Dailey) Synnott. Raised in Waterbury, Ruth attended local schools and was a graduate of Croft High School and then the St. Mary's School of Nursing.
Ruth had a passionate nursing career for 35 years alongside some of her best friends, Joan, Peggy, Angela, Sue, Marianne, Pam and many more. In addition to her passion for nursing, she was equally as passionate about sports. Anyone that knew her knew that she was the most loyal New York Yankees fan, never missing a game. She was also a season ticket holder for UCONN Women's Basketball and enjoyed nothing more than cheering on her girls. Each year to celebrate her birthday, her family all got together to attend Yard Goats Baseball games.
Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren. From day trips to vacations, countless football and softball games, cheerleading competitions and dance recitals, everyone always recognized Ba and knew she wouldn't miss a game. She never missed an opportunity to golf alongside Chris or her grandchildren. Despite any health challenges she may have been facing, she always prioritized playing weekly dominos with her dear friend Linda or playing weekly card games on Wednesdays with Peggy, Sue, and Pam and it was the highlight of her week. She also enjoyed attending plays each weekend with her nephew Peter and sister Eileen. She never missed an opportunity to have lunch with her sister Mary. Towards the end of her life, she was happiest when spending time with her great grandson Hudson. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Christopher J. O'Neill and his wife Theresa of Litchfield; two brothers, Thomas Synnott of VA and William Synnott and his wife Pat of NY; two sisters, Mary Jones and her husband Bob of Wolcott and Eileen Dellario of Wolcott; four grandchildren, Lauren Pensa and her husband Fil, Brendan O'Neill and his wife Aubrey and great grandson Hudson, Madison O'Neill, Matthew Marinelli and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Amy O'Neill, her son, Brian S. O'Neill and her brothers, John, Robert, and Ray Synnott.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, February 1, at 10:00 A.M. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception 74 West Main St. Waterbury. Inurnment of cremains will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
