Age 4, of Channahon, Illinois, left this world too soon on July 15, 2025. Born on January 7, 2021, in Bolingbrook, Illinois, Ryder is the cherished son of Josh and Stephanie (Main) Montavon.

A bright light in the lives of all who knew him, Ryder had just completed his first year of preschool at Miss Kasia’s, where he not only blossomed academically but also gained a special connection with his beloved "Babcia." Ever eager to share his full name—Ryder James Montavon—he proudly introduced himself to everyone he met, endearing himself with his confidence and warmth.

Ryder was an exceptionally intelligent, kind-hearted, and joyful little boy who naturally became a friend to all. His passions were pure and vibrant—he loved all things “boy”: cars, Hot Wheels, monster trucks, Minions, Spider-Man, Bumblebee from Transformers, and of course, Chase from Paw Patrol. He delighted in loud music and even louder cars, often spending time watching Minecraft videos with his dad. Friday nights became a special tradition—dinner at Chili’s in Morris, where Ryder formed friendships with the staff and enjoyed his favorite meal: pizza and broccoli.

Though his time here was far too brief, Ryder’s spirit and laughter left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him. He radiated joy and kindness and lived each day with contagious enthusiasm. His memory will forever be held close by those whose lives he touched.

Survivors include his parents Josh and Stephanie; grandparents: Kim Harvey of Effingham, Illinois and Chris (Shirley Teel) Montavon of Dallas, Texas, as well as his Babcia, Kasia; great grandparents: Debbie Evans of Ramsey, Illinois, and Patsy Bodeker of Altamont, Illinois; aunts: Sydney Harvey, Stormie Cox and Funcle Brooke, and many other friends and neighbors who became family.

Ryder was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Karol (Arnold) Main, Lester Bodeker and Kenny Evans, and paternal grandparents: Therese (Ramon) Arredondo.

The family will receive friends for a visitation at Fruland Funeral Home, 121 West Jefferson Street in Morris on Friday, July 18, 2025 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Ryder James life will follow on Saturday morning, July 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Lu Cantrell, Chaplain from the Channahon Fire Protection District officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Morris, Illinois.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Ryder’s memory to an animal shelter or rescue of the donor’s choosing.
