Sammy Stubbs, 56 year old Mooreland resident passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in the Mooreland High School Gymnasium with Reverend Donnetta Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Sammy Joe Stubbs was born April 23, 1969 to James Albert Stubbs, Sr. and Ethel (Hembree) Gullet in Searcy, Arkansas. Sammy grew up in Arkansas and California before moving to Oklahoma where he has been since. He attended and graduated from Mooreland High School. Sammy was united into marriage to Kerrie Lee Burdine on July 13, 1991 in Woodward, Oklahoma. The couple then made their home in Mooreland.
Sammy worked for Hunzicker Brothers, Mooreland Police Department and was currently a Journey Lineman for Western Farmers Electric. He also worked as a Transmission and Distribution Services Maintenance Specialist. Sammy enjoyed to be fishing, camping, watching birds, Thunder Basketball, OU Football, keeping up with his lawn and to just sit and have meaningful conversations. Spending time with his family and friends is what he loved most.
Sammy was a member of the school board, church board and he was a Police Officer Reserve for 25 years.
Sammy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kerrie Stubbs; one son, Tailon Stubbs; one daughter, Erika Mogg and Brock Harmon; two brothers, Charles Clapper, Tony Rutledge; three sisters, Valarie Johnson and Rich, Carol Stubbs, Sara Cramer and John, Kay Tolston; two grandchildren, Vaida Kay Mogg and Hembree Layne Harmon; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Stubbs and Ethel Gullet, grandmother Edith Beck, sister Brenda Ezell, mother in law Sandra Burdine, brother in law Shawn Ray and June Stubbs.
