Sandra Mary Brennan passed away on June 30, 2025. Sandy was born in Philadelphia on July 27, 1939, to Thomas and Catherine (O’Neill) Richards. She attended St. Edward’s Grade School, Little Flower High School, and the West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Girls. Her career started at State Farm Insurance Company, where she met the love and inspiration of her life, Dave Brennan. Sandra Mary Richards and Dave Brennan were married on October 29, 1960, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. They later moved to Los Angeles for Dave’s career, and in 1979 moved to Dallas, where they decided to put down roots. Sandy was a devout Catholic and an active member of All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas, where she worked and developed deep relationships with four lifelong friends. She and Dave also attended Prince of Peace Catholic Church after they moved to Plano, which became home for nearly three decades.
Sandy had a bottomless busy bag of crafts, and she loved to read, garden, travel, cook, bake, and gather with her various communities. She and Dave traveled throughout North America and Europe, as well as to Asia, each time returning home with an even greater love of America. Her favorite trips were the many summertime family reunions that she hosted in Ocean City, New Jersey, surrounded by her immediate and extended family, enjoying card games, her favorite East Coast food, the boardwalk, and an abundance of hilarious stories.
To Sandy, family was everything. She adored her four children and enjoyed being a grandmother even more. She valued humor and laughter, especially when her family was the source of it. Sandy was always on the hunt for ways to bring joy to others and to bring those she loved together. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she was known for her holiday parties, which included Santa Claus, reindeer, and a healthy sprinkling of magic for children of all ages. Thankfully, Sandy never stopped believing in Santa Claus and the spirit of Christmas.
Community was an especially important focus to Sandy. Generous with both time and treasure, Sandy and Dave supported many organizations, including St. Joseph's University, the University of Dallas, Baylor Medical Center, Children's Health, Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, Star Children's Charity, Catholic Charities, Dallas Symphony Pops Orchestra, Habitat for Humanity, and the Notre Dame School. Sandy and Dave were among the founding donors for the Plano campus of Children’s Health, and Sandy was a key member of the Women’s Auxiliary that supports the hospital. Ever seeking ways to be " little Sandy Claus magic,” she helped design a gift-wrapping service for nurses at the hospital during the holiday season.
She is preceded in death by her true love, Dave Brennan, her parents, and her half-sister, Katherine Richards Paul. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Michelle Brennan Hall and her husband Jeff Hall, of Frisco, Texas, along with their sons Cameron and Peyton; David Brennan, Jr., of Colleyville, Texas, his daughters Alexandra and Alison, and wife Jena Brennan; Darren Brennan and wife Tanya Brennan of Celina, Texas; Debra Brennan Tagg and husband Paul Tagg, of Dallas, Texas, and their children Harper and Liam. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Richards and his wife Joan of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and her sister Charlotte White, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as well as a host of loving friends and relatives.
A private Celebration of Life is planned. To help us celebrate Sandy’s life, please say a prayer, help your fellow man, do something nice for your community, or sprinkle a little “Sandy Calus” magic where you can. We welcome gifts in memory and celebration of Sandy Brennan directed to the Children’s Health Plano Campus at Children's Medical Center Foundation: 2777 Stemmons Freeway, Ste. 700, Dallas, TX 75207 or through the Children’s Health website.
