Sandra Kay Hudson, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family on July 12, 2025. Born on October 31, 1947, in Lansing, Michigan, to the late Harry Shaffer and Roberta (Ralph Goff) Garver, Sandra's life was a testament to her loving nature and her ability to bring joy to those around her.
Sandra's early life in Lansing laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and service. She was a proud graduate of Haslett High School, after which she continued her education at Lansing Community College, earning an associate degree that would lead her to a career at Citizens Insurance. There, Sandra excelled as a Senior Medical Adjuster, a role in which she was able to help many with her expertise.
On January 23, 1968, Sandra married the love of her life, Richard Thomas Hudson, in Holt, Michigan. Their union was blessed with daughters Susan (Kevin) Crawford and Cyndi (Jeff) Gerard. Sandra's family was the center of her world, and she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her surviving grandchildren, Ashley (Cam) Bradley, Nathan (Rena) Sims, Miranda Crawford, Logan Gerard, Kayla Crawford, and Emma Grace Gerard, along with her great-grandchildren Bentlee Bell, Ellie Sims, Marley Sims, Wyatt Bradley, Gunnar Bradley, and Marshall Sims, will hold the legacy of her love in their hearts forever.
Sandra's siblings, Gary (Penny) Shaffer, Karen (David) Reslock, and Michael Shaffer, will remember her as a guiding light in their lives, as will all who knew her. While she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard, and her treasured granddaughter, Kacie Crawford, the memories they shared will continue to bring comfort to her family.
An avid knitter, Sandra found joy in creating beautiful pieces for her friends and family. Her love for the outdoors was evident in her passion for the annual camping and fishing trips to Rice Lake and living on the farm. Sandra's spirit was closely tied to the land as she raised pheasants and ran Sandy Pines Pheasant Farm with Richard. Her love for Michigan State University sports was unwavering, and she could often be found cheering on her favorite teams.
Sandra's zest for life extended to her hobbies, which included frequenting craft shows and cherishing oak furniture. Her competitive spirit shone through in her love for bowling, a pastime she shared with her closest friends. Sandra's life was rich with experiences and friendships, and she will be remembered for her unwavering love, her kindness, and her gentle soul.
In every aspect of her life, Sandra embodied the qualities of a truly remarkable individual. Her smile, her warmth, and her generous spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Sandra lived a life full of love and left this world leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 1:00pm at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 214 S. Main St. Perry. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Sandra's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
