Saul Ortega, age 89.
Saul Decilos Ortega, age 89 passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Madero, Tamaulipas on November 29, 1935. Eldest, son of the late Manuela Decilos and the late Vidal Ortega. Followed by his siblings, the late Chavela Ortega, and Esperanza Ortega.
Saul was a passionate, hard-working, honest, and above all loyal family man. He approached life taking any challenge and diligently worked to provide for his growing family. Seeking out the best he traveled to many cities in our young country where he felt he would be happy remaining. During the 1950s that city would later turn out to be our home Chicago.
Saul was content with staying in the comfort of his last home on 76th St and Lawndale to enjoy his well earned retirement where he lived with his companion cat Tauntaun. A sweet tooth lover he indulged in apple pie, butterpecan icecream, blueberry muffins, and always loved to have a glass of his favorite drink Lipton, lemon iced tea. He would love to tell stories of “how things used to be” and the history of his travels, endeavors and anything that peaked his curiosity.
A provider to the end, Saul instilled his values into every person he raised to ensure that they would live a happy life and enjoy the little things. He is survived by his four children and wife.
Beloved husband of Irma Edith Cruz. Loving father of Saul (Gloria) Ortega, Andres(Esmeralda) Ortega, Barbara (Rolando) Godínez, Abril (Raul) Caudillo. Proud grandfather of Veronica, Elizabeth, Saul David, Cecilia, Andy, Joseph, Michael, Efrain, Daniel, Francisco, Marco Antonio, Jessica, Marinaisabel, Ima, Cuauhtemoc, and Seis. Cherished great grandfather of twenty, great great grandfather of four. Loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Saul was a deeply spiritual man and yearned to be alongside his mother when his time on earth was over. He has left behind a legacy and will never be forgotten in this lifetime.
