Sharon Benz Obituary

Sharon Marie (Rick) Benz, 77, of Varna, IL died at 2:08pm on June 25, 2025, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL with her family by her side. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00am on Tuesday, July 1st at her church the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Lacon, IL with Father Pica officiating. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Lacon, IL. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm – 7:00pm on Monday, June 30th at Lenz Memorial Home. A Rosary service will be held at 4:30pm prior to the visitation. Sharon was born on July 1, 1947, in Pittsfield, IL., the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Shaw) Rick. She married the love of her life, Lloyd Benz, on August 14, 1965, where they would be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year. He survives in Varna, IL. Also surviving are two sons, Gary Benz of Lacon, IL, Kevin (Ginger) Benz of Oregon, WI, one daughter, Sandra (Terry) Condon of Loganville, WI; five grandchildren: Jessica Benz of Sparland, IL, Cody (Marnae) Benz of Lacon, IL, Morgan (Brad) Nelson of Oregon, WI, Sadie Benz and Devin Benz, both of Lacon, IL; seven great grandchildren; a sister Patricia Rick of Louisiana, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ruth Rick, both sets of grandparents and a very special uncle. Sharon graduated from Calhoun High School in Hardin, IL in 1965. She worked for 18 months at the Savings & Loan in Carbondale, IL as a receptionist. She then became a stay-at-home mom and started watching two small children in their neighborhood. She did this until Lloyd graduated Southern Illinois University in 1969 and they moved to Varna, IL where Lloyd had a position with Marshall Putnam Oil Company FS. Sharon later began working for McCall Insurance, Vallazza Insurance, the U.S Postal Service, and Marshall County State Bank, all of Varna, IL. Sharon was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Alter and Rosary Society. Donations can be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or donors' choice.
