Sheila Field (née Sheila Beryl Hershfield)October 24, 1934 - July 7, 2025
Sheila Field, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 7th at her home at Aurora Place in Edina, surrounded by several members of her loving family. She is preceded in death by her first husband Saul Segal with whom she had 3 children.
Born on October 24, 1934, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Sheila dedicated her life to service, advocacy, and connection. A passionate champion for children's health and well-being, she worked for the Greater Minneapolis Day Care Association and later at the Minnesota Department of Health, where her work led to significant advancements, including fluoridation of drinking water and the development of pre-kindergarten health screening programs.
In 1990, Sheila married Harold "Bud" Levinger. Together they shared a love of the Minnesota Orchestra, theater, travel, and spending time with friends. Sheila also enjoyed walking the paths around the city lakes, finding joy in nature and her surroundings.
Sheila will be remembered for her dedication and love for the Jewish community and her family.
Sheila is survived by her children and step- children and their spouses : David and Renee Segal, Caron Segal, Andrea and Brad Ferstan, Janet Levinger and Willian Poole, Michael Levinger and Nancy Schwartz, Deborah Levinger and David Vaillancourt; and her grandchildren: Benjamin Segal and Angela Trinh, Leah Segal, Molly Klein, Max Ferstan, Ivy Ferstan, William Poole and Aabha Morey, Sarah Lynne Poole, Aaron Levinger, Rebecca Levinger, Andrew Vaillancourt, Sophia Vaillancourt; and her great-grandchildren, Eli Segal and Saul Segal.
Funeral is at Adath Jeshurun Synagogue on Thursday at 11am, Shiva is Thursday evening at 7pm at Adath Jeshurun. Funeral zoom link- https://adath.livecontrol.tv/ec05906f
