SHELBY HAMMOND

Seneca – Shelby Jean Owens Hammond, 69, loving wife of Lonney Elton Hammond, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 6, 1956, in Westminster, South Carolina, Shelby was the daughter of the late Cecil James and Agnes Leola Cobb Owens. Shelby worked in quality control at Capers Manufacturing, where she was known for her dedication and attention to detail. A devoted member of Utica Baptist Church, she found great joy in serving her community, especially through her work with the children, whom she cared for deeply.

Shelby is survived by her beloved husband, Lonney Elton Hammond; sons, Christopher Hammond, Brandon Hammond, John Cody Cash (Ashley); brothers, Dale Owens (Joyce), Ricky Owens (Pat), Wayne Owens (Lynn); sister, Beverly Bentley; grandchildren, Austin Hammond, Lily Hammond, Kayleigh Cash, Emmalynn Cash; brother in-law, Larry Watkins; and sister-in-law, Kathy Wilson.

In addition to her parents, Shelby is preceded in death by her siblings, Jerry Owens, Shirley Watkins; nephews, Paul Owens and Kevin Owens; and brother-in-law, Scott Bentley.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Utica Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Courtney Cemetery. Shelby will lie in state from 10:00 am to 11:00am, prior to the service at Utica Baptist Church. The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Sandifer Funeral Home.
