Mrs. Shelia Mae Barnes, age 71, of Clarksville, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her immediate family, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Born on May 29, 1954, in Ft. Campbell, KY, Shelia was the beloved daughter of Bryce and Wilma Sullivan Jeffreys.
Shelia dedicated her life to education, sharing her heart and talents as a Special Education teacher for over 30 years before retiring from Northwest High School. Her passion for helping students learn and grow was evident in every lesson. Every school year brought her joy as she watched her students achieve a little more.
She had a sharp wit and loved making others laugh with her one-liners. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, playing games on her iPad, and indulging in her favorite treat-Southern butter pecan ice cream. A true music lover, Shelia was a lifelong fan of Neil Diamond and 'real' country music.
Fiercely loyal, Shelia stood up for those she loved from an early age, always defending her sisters and those in need. She had a soft spot for animals, especially her cherished cats: Tapper, Silence, Peepers, and Pystol. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she attended various Christian churches over the years.
Shelia is preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Jeffreys.
She is survived by her loving husband of over 44 years, Madison O'Neal Barnes; her son, James Hamrick (Mary) of Florence, AL; her father, Bryce Jeffreys, Clarksville, TN; her sisters, Gloria Finch of Stewart, TN, and Crystal Jeffreys of Chesapeake, VA; as well as a host of family, friends, former students, and colleagues who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Anglin Funeral Home and will continue on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Bro. Rod Parchman will officiate. Burial will follow at Barnes Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be O'Neal Barnes, Clayton Barnes Sr., Clayton Barnes, II, Allen Tatom Jr., William Hopkins, Montgomery Arrant, Jacob Bush, and Martin Barnes.
