Shelia June LaDuke passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 77, after courageously living with cancer for 18 years. Born on April 8, 1948, in Abilene, Texas, Shelia lived life centered on family, education, and the many passions that brought her joy.

She is survived by her daughters: Jeana Wood of Amarillo, Texas; Joni Krueger and her husband, David, of West Sacramento, California; and Jami Upshaw of Austin, Texas; and their father, Fred Upshaw. She was a proud grandmother to Mackenzie Upshaw, Brittany Krueger, Mackayla Wood, and Kylie Krueger, and great-grandmother to Kreed Wood.

Shelia is also survived by her siblings: Shirley Wagner, Sheryl Davis, and Shane LaDuke; her stepson, Kurt McCuistion of Rockwall, Texas; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Travis and Helen LaDuke; her stepdaughter, Gina McCuistion; her former husband, Jerry Don McCuistion; and her niece, Keeton McNutt.

Shelia graduated from Tulia High School in 1966, where she was a spirited cheerleader — one of the happiest times of her life. She earned her degree in education from West Texas State University in 1970 and went on to teach elementary school in Texas, and middle school in Oklahoma, and California. Her dedication and love for teaching were recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year while teaching in Dallas.

Shelia took piano lessons as a child and later taught piano to young students. She also taught swimming for many summers to many of her students. She was also known for her passion and love of food and cooking — often preparing meals for family and friends, attending cooking classes, and watching her favorite cooking shows.

A true sports fan at heart, Shelia had a lifelong passion for football. She cherished Friday nights cheering for her local teams, spent weekends attending West Texas games with her parents and sister Sheryl, and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan every fall, never missing a game from her living room.

Despite a 18-year journey with cancer, Shelia lived with incredible strength. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, humor, and love for Jesus.

A private memorial for the family will be held in August. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Shelia’s memory to a cause close to your heart.
