Yorktown, Va. Shirley Bridwell Autry, 90, of Yorktown, Va. passed away on Monday June 30, 2025.She was born on April 18, 1935 in Greenville County South Carolina to Walter and Mamie Bridwell. Shirley Temple (Named after the curly-haired movie moppet) was the youngest of five siblings, which included Hilary, Julian, Emma, and David. She later attended Warwick High School in Newport News.
She married Daniel G. Autry in August of 1953. After working at GEX Department Store in accounting, she retired in the mid-sixties to become a stay-at-home mom. Once the children were grown, Shirley and Dan travelled along the lowers southeast enjoying Dan's retirement. They loved antiquing, thrift-shopping and sightseeing the beautiful countryside. Dan passed away after 60 years of marriage.
Although Shirley endured the indignity of dementia during her final years, she was well cared for by her children. During her last six months, Trinity Home Hospice also took part in seeing to her needs and comfort.
In additional to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by all four siblings. Shirley is survived by a daughter Kelly Autry Jones and her husband Jeff, two sons, Stanley M. Autry and Scott J. Autry, grandchildren, Jeremy, Ashley, Taylor and Ava and three great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, VA.
