Funeral Services will be held at the Matthews Funeral Home in Jennings, LA, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM for Ms. Shirley Ann Comeaux, 92, who passed away late Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Welsh, LA.
The family would like visiting hours to be observed at the Matthews Funeral Home in Jennings, LA on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 8:00 AM until the time of her service at 10:00 AM. Reverend Anil Alexander will be officiating her service and interment is set to follow at the St. Anthony's Cemetery in Lake Arthur, LA.
Ms. Shirley was born in Jennings, LA on July 4, 1933, to the late Mr. Joseph Adolph Broussard of Gueydan, LA and Mrs. Telesia Fontenot Broussard of Mermentau, LA. Shirley attended Gueydan High School and went on to attend Zwolle Tech. She was a faithful member of the Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Welsh, LA. She was a part of the Catholic Daughters of America Organization. She held an aspiring career in Jefferson Davis Parish. She was elected to the Democratic Executive Committee of Jefferson Davis Parish where she served three terms. She was the Secretary of the District Attorney's Office from 1953-1971. She also served as the Deputy Tax Assessor for Jefferson Davis Parish from 1991 until her retirement. Beyond her work pursuits, she enjoyed singing and dancing. She was a member of the McNesse Messiah Chorus for over ten years, and she also sang with the Tongues of Fire for the Church of Immaculate Conception in Jennings, LA. Shirley was also a proud wife, mother and grandmother who gave much of her heart to the care of her family. A successful, talented and loving woman will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her son, Kevin Paul Trahan with his wife Jennifer Chaisson Trahan and one grandson, Christopher A. Trahan all of Welsh, LA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Adoplh Broussard and Telesia Fontenot Broussard; her first husband, John Dorance Trahan; her second husband, Walter Comeaux; her sister and brother in law Beatrice and Sidney Monceaux of Reeves, LA; her brothers, Lewis Austin Broussard of Lake Arthur, LA, Roland Llyod Broussard of Jennings LA, Bernice J. Broussard of Lafayette, LA and Clifford L. Broussard of Muldrow, OK.
The family would like to send special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Golden Age Nursing Home of Welsh, LA for their care of Ms. Shirley during her stay.
