Shirley Evelyn (Spiekerman) Mielens, 86, of Munger, died April 22, 2025, at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. Shirley was born August 9, 1938, daughter of the late John and Elsie (Haske) Spiekerman.
On September 6, 1958, she married the late Donald Mielens at Christ Lutheran Church in Reese and together had five children. Shirley was a devoted mother and homemaker. As her family grew, she enjoyed showering her love and support on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family meant the world to her.
Shirley was a life-long member of Christ Lutheran Church in Reese. She enjoyed supporting the church's mission efforts, notably sewing many blankets for Project Linus. Her creative talents showed through in the lives of those around her. She loved crafting of any kind and always seemed to have a project she was working on. Whether it was sewing a costume, knitting a hat or decorating a cake, she always used her gifts to the benefit of others. She also enjoyed camping, watching the Detroit Tigers and working in her flower gardens.
Left to cherish Shirley's memory are her children, Cindy (Ray) Hildinger, Larry Mielens, Kim (Ron) Hands, and Tim (Tina) Mielens; grandchildren, Steve Hildinger, Andy (Shannon) Hildinger, Susan (Russell) Wallaker, DJ (Fiancée Shelby) Mielens, Brandon (Girlfriend Brittany) Mielens, Tiffany (Rick) Escherich, Jacob (Fiancée Nicky) Hands, Aubrey (Andrew) Jacobs, Angela (Wade) SanMiguel, Ashley (Hunter) Lucas; great grandchildren, Jocelyn, Alexandra, Ethan, Marcus, Alyssa, Ava, Christian, Carter, Molly, Jase, Cierra; step great grandchildren, Haylie, Cayd; and sisters Arlene Daenzer, Bernie (Al) Mielens, RuthAnn (John) Kaijala and Joyce Simpson. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by son, David Mielens; granddaughter, Stephanie Mielens; brother, Ken Spiekerman.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Christ Lutheran Church in Reese. The burial will take place later in the day at Floral Gardens Cemetery in Bay City. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 27, from 2-5 p.m. at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home 9940 Saginaw St, Reese and again on Monday, April 28, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Church.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Christ Lutheran Church or Good Samaritan Rescue Mission.
