Shirley "Darlene" Powell, 79, of Ferriday, LA passed from her earthly life, Sunday, June 29th 2025.
Born January 8, 1946, in Natchez, MS to Everette Wallace and Ruth Whitehead, Ms. Darlene lived a life all over this world. Meeting her dear late husband, Jimmie Wendell on Lake Concordia, the two spent the majority of their lives traveling. Living in South America, The Middle East, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, they saw more in a lifetime than some ever dreamt of. The majority of this travel was accompanied by their two exceptional daughters: Rhonda Powell Alexander and Wendolyn Powell Moon.
In her later years, Darlene spent her time living on Lake Concordia. She enjoyed fishing, tending to her puppers and watching LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints football. She found joy and comfort in prayer, and was always sure to let you know that she was praying for you. Her unwavering faith radiated into the hearts of those that she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents Everette Wallace and Ruth Whitehead, her husband Jimmie Wendell Powell, her sister Patty Byrd, brother Charles Wallace, niece Carmen Darlene Byrd and son-in-law Toby Jack Moon.
Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda Alexander of Ferriday and Wendy Moon of Minden, her grandson Bryce Alexander and wife Michelle of Ball,LA, granddaughter Emily Moon Standley and husband Spencer Standley of Minden, and granddaughter McKenna Moon of Minden. Close nieces Allison "Cookie" Atkinson of Natchez, MS and Kathy Powell of Newellton, LA. Darlene was immensely blessed to know her great grandchildren : Lucas, Levi, Riley and River Alexander all of Ball, LA and Landry Standley of Minden, TX.
Lamentations 3: 31-33 states, " God will not reject His people forever, and even though He may cause grief, He will show compassion according to His abundant mercy.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 5th at 10a.m. at Minden Baptist Church in Minden, TX.
