Sigrid Bowman Obituary

Sigrid was born September 30, 1941, in Munich, Germany to Heinz and Gertraud Raecke. Following World War II, she lived in Germany and, for a short time, in England. In 1949, the family moved from Germany to Venezuela where she attended school. Due to financial hardship, Sigrid could not finish school and instead began working full time at age 15 as a secretary and translator but, at age 19, was hired as a stewardess with Viasa Airlines. For the next few years, she enthusiastically travelled the world.
In 1965, Sigrid married William Rogers Abbott, II in Caracas and, in 1967, moved to Oklahoma. Sigrid and Rogers were married until 1984. In 1971, Sigrid obtained a degree in Journalism from Oklahoma University and worked as a reporter for the Daily Oklahoman. In 1980, Sigrid started work for the Kerr McGee Corporation as a financial writer until her retirement in 2003. In 1990, Sigrid married Jack Bowman and they remained married until his passing in 2024.
Sigrid spoke three languages, each with a foreign accent. She loved scuba diving, boating, hiking, and family gatherings. She lived a remarkable life, full of adventure and discovery.
Sigrid is survived by two sisters, Angela and Doris; two brothers, Heinz and Horst; a son, Bennett; a granddaughter, Jollie; and several much-loved stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Smith Memorial Chapel located at 220 North 1st Street in Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
Sigrid's memorial services will be livestreamed and may be viewed online the day of the service.
There will not be any viewing.

Our friendship began as boat neighbors on Lake Tenkiller. She was a jewel and inspired me. Such an intelligent, adventurous woman who was always supportive, sincere in all her dealings. Best of all, she loved all dogs, almost as much as she loved Jack! I miss you, Sigrid.

Sigrid was such a dear friend. We met at Kerr-McGee many years ago. Our friendship continued through all our adventures on Lake Tenkiller, many cruises together, and lastly many l7nches and dinners with her and Jack. Rest in peace my dear friend. Sigrid was the kindest person. Lonnie and I had a saying ("Sigrid could find good in anyone probably even Charles Manson!!)
