It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Socorro G. Hernandez, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, on July 12, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on June 12, 1944, in Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico and was embraced by Our Lord while surrounded by family. She was beloved by so many and will be missed.
She was an avid parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. A choir director for over 40 years and a member of the Guadalupanas. Whether she was leading a prayer, helping at the annual "Jamaica" directing the choir, serving her community, or cheering on her grandkids, she did it with joy, and all her heart. She walked many miles during processions, attending posadas, singing at many events and being everyone's comadre, she always had a smile on her face and warm hug to give.
She was very devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe as well. She worked for the Archdiocese of San Antonio as the cook and house manager for the priests as well as the "lady to call for anything" at any time. She then worked for the school district at Dr. Lonnie Green Elementary where she made many friends. She was very active until her passing, as she attended Willow Creek Center and enjoyed dancing, playing Loteria, walking from table to table talking to everyone and making new friends.
She always said yes to whomever needed help, a true believer in Christ and Our Blessed Mother.
She leaves behind a legacy of service, and love - and grandchildren who knew her not just as grandma, but as their loudest, proudest cheerleader. We will forever carry her voice, her spirit, and her song in our hearts.
The Lord is my Shepherd Psalm 23
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonel K. Hernandez (La Leona), her parents, Josefina Gomez Villanueva, and Jesus Gomez, and her 6 infant brothers.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Delfina Gomez Gonzalez and husband Jose Gonzalez, (Fresno, CA) her two children, Leonel G. Hernandez Jr. and wife Martina Hernadez (Bastrop), Maria del Rosario (Rosie) H. Thomas and husband Anthony (Tony) Wayne Thomas (Del Rio), as well as 6 grandchildren, Christopher Lee H. Cooper (South Dakota) Teresita de Jesus Hernandez (Giddings) Adriana Marie H. Ibarra and husband Caleb Millican (San Angelo) Anthony Wayne H. Thomas Jr. (San Angelo), Daphne Isabele Hernandez Gonzalez and husband Phillip (Austin) Ahtziri Alyn Hernandez (Bastrop), Great-granddaughter Lila Marie Gonzalez (Austin) Brother-in-Law Pedro K. Hernandez (Dallas) and Sister-in-law Leticia Hernandez Silva and husband Joe Silva (Dallas), Lily Hernandez (Killeen) the Gonzalez family of Eagle Pass who we consider family and many, nieces and nephews cousins and friends, whom she adored.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Trinity Chapel of Faith. A Holy Rosary will be recited at. 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at San Felipe Cemetery.
