Sonja Sue Reeves, 71, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away on July 17, 2025. She was born on January 20, 1954, in Hohenwald to the late James and Katie Sue (Denton) Johnston. She married her soulmate, Jimmy Reeves, and together they shared a life marked by love. Sonja was known for her radiant smile and her big, joyful laugh. She had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, loved, and valued. She was a natural caretaker. Her compassion ran deep; she not only cared for others, she felt their pain as if it were her own, and there was truly nothing she wouldn't do to help someone in need. She cherished connection, and some of her happiest moments were spent around the table with friends and family, especially at holidays. Christmas was a special time for her; she poured her heart into decorating her home, turning it into a joyful space that reflected her love of beauty and celebration. More than anything, Sonja loved the Lord. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She found strength, peace, and purpose in scripture, and she lived each day with grace, humility, and unwavering belief. In addition to her parents, James and Katie Sue, Sonja was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Johnston. Sonja leaves behind her beloved husband Jimmy; daughter, Heather (Cory) Covington; step-sons, Justin Reeves and Jared (Kelly) Reeves; sister, Jimmie Kay McCarthy; brother, David Johnston, along with a wide circle of friends whose lives were made better simply by knowing her. Visitation with the Reeves family is scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Hohenwald First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will begin immediately afterward at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at 3:00 p.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia. McDonald Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Reeves family.

Sonja was a very special friend of mine. I met her and lived close to where she and Jimmy lived. We had many special times together. I tried to take care of her and enjoyed shopping for things in her beautiful home in Dornick Hills in Ardmore Oklahoma. I got to travel to Florida and enjoyed the beach at Cape Coral. Had a wonderful time visiting with her for another time after my husband Harold passed away. She was such a giving loving person. I will miss our special phone visits. One day we will be able to see one another and enjoy the blessings of the Lord together what a reunion we will enjoy.
