Stanley Richard Turbett, 80, of Hanna City, passed away at 1:55 AM on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at his residence. He was born on July 9, 1944 in Peoria, a son of Stoy and Audrey (Kepler) Turbett. He married Carolyn Bliss on January 27, 1968 in Peoria, and they recently celebrated their 57th anniversary. He loved being a husband, father, and grandfather. He was immensely proud of all of his kids and grandkids.
Surviving is his wife, Carolyn; his children, Carrie (Dave) Drake of Glasford; Amy (Gregory) VanAusdall of Florida; Matthew (Rickquel Hawkins) Turbett of Peoria; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a brother, Timothy (Jeanne) Turbett of Bloomington.
Preceding, Stanley in death were his parents, a son, Michael Turbett, and brother, Steven Turbett.
A man of many interests and quiet passions, Stanley was known for his sense of humor and generous spirit. He would give anyone-even a stranger-the shirt off his back. He saw the good in everyone and developed friendships with almost anyone he connected with.
Stan loved telling stories about his past. If you listened to him for any time at all, you'd know he was cheated out of being named baseball MVP in 1956-and that he was the fastest base runner in all of Hanna City.
Stan also loved working with his hands-whether in the garage, fixing up anything mechanical, or doing any kind of woodworking project.
He was most at peace while riding his lawnmower and would often mow his neighbors' yards just for the fun of it. He found joy in the simplicity of cooking for his family, and he truly loved being in the kitchen. His Sunday meals were a treasured tradition, as he was able to perfect his mother's recipes for tenderloins and tamales.
Stanley had a deep appreciation for Western movies-watching his favorite, Dances with Wolves, over and over-and was also known for breaking out into spontaneous song, often catching his loved ones off guard with a grin and a quick lyric or two from Tennessee Ernie Ford, Frankie Laine, or the soundtrack from Johnny Appleseed.
One of Stan's favorite roles to play was "Stanta" at Christmastime. He even painted his beard white and attended parties for foster children so that he could hand out presents.
Stan's life was defined by love, generosity, and quiet strength. He made everyone around him feel seen, valued, and welcome-whether through a kind word, a shared story, or a simple act of service. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched along the way. Though he will be deeply missed.
Stanley honorably served in the United States Air Force for 24 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of Hanna City Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed woodworking, mowing, and mechanical repair.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM with a memorial following at 11:00 AM Thursday May 29, 2025 at Hanna City Presbyterian Church. Cremation rites will be accorded through Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. Memorials can be made to Veterans Helping Veterans or to the Hanna City Presbyterian Church.
