Stella Swanson Obituary

Memorial service for Stella Ann Swanson, 90, of Balaton, will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Balaton United Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. Public visitation will take place at church Tuesday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Upon conclusion of the Memorial service, Committal service will take place at Lakeside Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Balaton Community Center.
Stella Bonnstetter Swanson was born September 29, 1934 in Lotts Creek, IA to Michael and Lena (Streit) Bonnstetter. The family later moved to a farm near West Bend where they lived until 1949 when her dad and mom purchased a farm north of Slayton, MN. She graduated high school in 1953.
On July 3, 1953 Stella married Charles Swanson in Marshall. They made their home there until 1959 when they moved to Balaton. Charles joined his brother and worked at "Swanson's Garage" until 1979. Stella was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. They became members of the Balaton United Methodist Church. Stella was an active member of the church and UMW while they were raising their five sons.
In May 1970 she went to work at Schott Corporation in Marshall where she worked for 31 years retiring in 2001.
Being home for a while the opportunity came and she went to work a couple days a week at Lakeview Senior Housing in 2005. She enjoyed it so much, the residents became another family.
Stella died on June 29, 2025 at Avera Sunrise Manor in Tyler, MN.
She is survived by four sons Charles (Teresa), David (Kim), Mike (Lois), Brian (Annette); grandchildren Chuck (Nikki), Jamine (Kellan), John (Amy), Jill and Josh Bruns; great-grandchildren Marissa, Amaya, Zach, Whitney, Eli, Leo, Joclyn and Everlee.
Stella is preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles; son Roger; grandson Brandon; brothers Anton "Tony", Walter, Christopher and Jim; sisters Marie and Hilda.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Balaton United Methodist JAM.
