Cumberland, MD-Stephen Mark Monington went to be with his Lord on Thursday May 22, 2025 from UPMC Western MD. Born Feb 11,1953 in Oneonta, New York. He was the son of the late Merlyn and Frances "Angie" (Delberta)Monington of Oneonta, New York.
Steve was a graduate of Oneonta High School class of 1972 where he excelled in wrestling, baseball, and football. Following graduation, he briefly played semi pro football for the Oneonta farm team. He proudly served his country with the United States Army for several years as a Military Police Officer. Upon his return home he began his career in the federal justice system which allowed him to travel across the country and retired at the age of 50 in Cumberland, MD. Steve joined the Finan Center as the Chaplain where he provided spiritual guidance to patients and staff.
After retirement he began his true passion of serving the Lord as an ordained minister; as the associate pastor of Cumberland First Church of the Nazarene. Along side his duties as a minister he was a servant to the community which included Hospital Clergy, food deliveries from the local food bank, and coordinator of the church food pantry. Steve provided spiritual support to the faculty and staff by holding weekly prayer gatherings with staff at South Penn Elementary. Through his leadership in the church he provided a meal to the faculty and staff at the beginning of each school year. Steve was selfless in countless volunteer activities in both the church and the community.
Family was his greatest attribute as he was a wonderful husband, father, "grampie", and brother who will be missed beyond measure.
Steve could often be seen throughout the community volunteering, spending time with family, playing games with grandchildren, and traveling with his wife Ronda.
Survived by his wife Ronda whom he married on Oct 16,1976; where they grew everlasting memories for more than 48 years. Son; Kurt, Daughter; Carrie and husband Adam and his grandchildren, Wade, Ella, and Tyler who he loved so much. Brothers; Lynn and Joe, and sisters Kathy and husband, David; Gail and husband, Harry along with many nieces, nephews and countless family and friends.
Steve's family will deeply miss his love laughter and presence. His memory will live on by the countless lives he has touched and ministered to.
"It doesn't get any better than this!!!!"

Rhonda and Kathy-
My heart goes out to both of you and the whole family. Steve was such a blessing to the world. He was always smiling and laughing when I saw him and his "flock" and community was lucky to have him. My thoughts and prayers go out to you for peace and strength at this difficult time.

Love,
Julie Brownell

I'll like the world less, without Steve in it -- a tremendous human being, gifted leader, friend to everybody.
