Steven Vaughn Akers, 63 of Nowata, passed away Friday in the OSU Medical Center, Tulsa. Steven was born April 24, 1962, in Ponca City, OK to Joe O. and Mary Margaret (Rhodd) Akers. He was a proud member of the Ponca Tribe and had worked for many years as a lineman and heavy equipment operator. One of his joys was riding his Harley Davidson and feeling the wind in his hair.
He is survived by his children, Stevie Jo Doherty of Nowata, Joey Fiddler of Talala, Michelle McKesson of Nowata, Stacey Fiddler of Nowata, Eli Leggett of San Diego, and Dakota Akers of Nowata; Sister, Anita Robertson of Delaware; 9 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Janetta in Feb. 2021, his parents, one son, Jeremy Akers, a brother, Floyd Dean Akers, and his uncle, Rick Akers.
A Life Remembered Memorial Service for Steven Akers will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm in the Benjamin Memorial Chapel, Nowata. Eagle Rhodd will officiate services.
