Steven David Bell, beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, passed away on April 14,
2025 at the age of 44 due to a tragic car accident. While Steven spent most of his adult life in
South Dakota, he grew up in Alabama, and considered it to be home.
Steven was born on January 2nd, 1981 in Fort Payne, Alabama to Pepper Dwight "Buzzy" Bell
and Jean Marie Bell. He was known as that year's "New Year's baby" at that hospital. He
attended school in Fyffe, Alabama before the family moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota. During
his school years, Steven was very active in Tae Kwon Do, Wrestling, Baseball, Football, Band,
Choir, and Theater, in addition to being a devoted scholar. He earned his Black Belt in Tae
Kwon Do, was first chair as a trumpet player, and was recognized for his acting ability, starring
in lead roles for theatrical productions.
Following graduation from high school, Steven continued his education at South Dakota State
University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree,
frequently achieving recognition on the Dean's list. During his career, Steven worked as a
District and Regional Manager, helping to open and operate various stores and businesses. He
often led groups and teams in expansion and growth initiatives.
While he successfully managed these establishments throughout his working life, Steven was
also an aspiring beekeeper, dreaming of one day owning an apiary. He continued his passion
for sports and athletics into his adulthood, being an avid fitness enthusiast and runner. Steven
was also a child of God and was a saved Christian, and even attended church the day before
his passing. Steven made friends wherever he went, and was beloved in every community he
touched.
For Steven, his most treasured memories were of his childhood in Alabama. As a boy, he loved
to explore the woods with his friends, as well as to go fishing, camping, and hiking. He enjoyed
hearing stories of simpler times from his great aunts Naomi (Aunt Nay) "Myrtle the Turtle", his
meemaw, Munzai Brown, his grandfather, David Bell, his Aunt Sandy, and most importantly, his
grandmother Ola May Bell.
Steven will be remembered for his warmth, charisma, sense of humor, and his uncanny ability to
connect with others in a larger than life way. His smile, laugh, and ability to make others feel
special will be deeply missed.
Steven is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jean and Kurt Flaig, as well as his sisters,
Amanda Bell and Stephanie Mason. He is preceded in death by his father, Pepper Bell, and his
grandparents, Ola May and David Bell. Linda Berens became a second mother to Steven during
his adult life, and she also mourns his leaving this world too early.
Steven will always be remembered as the "better looking" of the siblings, as he would often
remind Amanda and Stephanie, aka "Little Spud".
A memorial will be held on May 16th beginning at noon at W.T. Wilson Funeral Chapel,
Rainsville Alabama. Friends and family are welcome, and flowers can be sent to W.T. Wilson
Funeral Chapel, 226 Shiloh Main Street, Rainsville Alabama 35986.
