Steven Lee Wick, 57, of Ashby, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. His family-lead celebration of life is set for 11 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ashby.
Steven Lee Wick was born to Jean (Hoff) and Donnie Wick on April 9, 1968. A major part of Steve’s life was the family farm in Ashby. He strove to preserve the legacy of that land and his family while also creating new history with his beloved friends, mother, brothers, daughter, nephews, and close friends.
Steve was always an advocate for hunting and fishing; he respected the animals, the land, and the people who stewarded that. Many will remember Steve as a mentor, specifically regarding his grounded demeanor and sensitive approach to guiding people through the process of hunting and fishing. One specific story comes to mind; while in the blind (duck hunting), some hunters filled with doubt as a flock of geese began to fly by and pass the blind, however, Steve began calling them and the geese made a 180 degree turn back to the direction of the blind. The hunters’ hope was no longer lost but emotions returned in the form of giddiness and astonishment. The amount of times this story has been told with theatrical faces and gestures reminds us of Steve’s deep connection to the wildlife he hunted and worked with along the years.
A deep reverence for land and wildlife is how most will remember him. However, the way he operated with the people he hunted with, whether friends or clients, even newcomers, left a glowing and ethereal strike that cannot be forgotten. The various blinds he built on Frog Lake, deer stands on the farm, creative projects, tending to the land, caretaking of his mother before her passing, and gatherings held will never be lost. While memories, moments, and some friends are no longer here nor tangible, the feelings felt while reminiscing still hold as much sentimental value and weight. And they always will. We’re not here for a long time but a good time.
Steve is survived by: brother: Michael Wick (Amy), daughter: Tessa Wick, nephews: Jarrett Wick, Ryan Wick, and Ramon Wick, sister in-law: Tammy Wick, cousins: Cindy Lanum, Kristin Trieber (Taylor, Emi, Rhys), Eric Lanum (Ayrika), Lonnie Hoff, Lance Hoff, Shanon Hoff, and his best friends: Aric Risbrudt, Erik Boxmeyer, Chris Boxmeyer, and Chuck Adams.
Preceded in death by parents: Jean and Donnie Wick, Uncle Glenn Hoff, brother: David Wick, grandparents: Tressa and Albert Hoff, Randy and Albert Wick, and best friend: Jason Dahlen.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the doctors and friends who cared for and supported him.
