Sue A. Reigelsberger, 63, of Rolfe, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025, after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma.
Sue was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma and friend. She fought her disease for 4 ½ years with incredible strength and grace, inspiring everyone around her. Throughout her journey, she never lost her warrior mentality, constantly reminding those around her that "every day is a gift". Her life served as a true testament of humbleness during the daily routines and resilience during the tough times.
Sue was born on July 21st, 1962, to Joe and Liela (Zitterich) Feldman. She grew up on a farm outside of Terril, Iowa and attended Terril Community School District where her dad was a bus driver for many, many years. Her childhood dream was to play basketball at the State Tournament, and she worked toward that dream all throughout her school years. She specifically spent a lot of time on the basketball court during her high school career, helping her team bring home a 1A championship at the State Tournament in March of 1980. Perhaps that championship is when her warrior mentality began? Sue graduated from high school in May of 1980.
After high school, Sue attended the Spencer School of Business and then Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, where she continued to play basketball and earn her AA degree. During her time at Iowa Lakes, she met Mick Reigelsberger. They later married on April 9th, 1983, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril. They settled in the town of Rolfe, moving to the Reigelsberger family farm southwest of Rolfe in 1992.
Sue began working at Shimon Drug in Pocahontas in October of 1983 and then became a Clerk with Pocahontas County in 1986. She moved into the Assistant County Assessor position in 2009, became Deputy Assessor in 2011, and then spent over nine years as Pocahontas County Assessor starting in Spring of 2012. She retired from that position in September of 2021. Her time with the county was such a big part of her life.
Mick and Sue welcomed twins, Joe and Kaitlin, on August 3rd, 1989. Twins came as a bit of a surprise, but Sue was grateful for every aspect. Watching her twins grow up together filled her heart with so much joy. From extracurriculars in their younger years to moving into their own homes as they grew into adulthood, she supported them during every phase. Her strength was tested when Joe died in a car accident in 2012, but she continued to exhibit such a profound level of resilience. She knew that Joe's legacy would live on in her daily life and made sure others knew that too.
Sue was active on many committees throughout her personal and professional life. She was very active with the Rolfe Enrichment committee in the early 2000's, which was an instrumental group in raising funds and overseeing the construction of a new community center. While with the Pocahontas County Assessor's office, she was active with the Iowa State Association of Assessors. She was very passionate about participating on the Executive Board and used her experience and knowledge to play a role in the IDR Multi-Residential Equalization Program.
Sue loved watching the sun rise each morning and set each evening. She was an avid reader and cherished her work alongside Mick on the farm. Prior to her diagnosis, she never shied away from spending time running the combine during Harvest. Lake time was her favorite, and she spent many days at Lost Island Lake throughout the last decade. She enjoyed quilting; knowing that she was following in her mom's footsteps made it a very special hobby. The tradition of 6-on-6 basketball in Iowa is something she remained very passionate about, and in 2018 she was able to play granny basketball with childhood friends and teammates. Next to having her own twins, her greatest joys were her four grandchildren. Graham, Jack, Evie and Delaney loved GiGi Sue.
She is survived by her husband Mick Reigelsberger of Rolfe, daughter Kaitlin (Crosby) Krischel of Havelock, grandchildren Graham, Jack, Evie and Delaney Krischel of Havelock, brothers Mark (Deb) Feldman of Spencer, and Greg Feldman of Terril, other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were very dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Liela Feldman, son Joe Reigelsberger, brother Gary Feldman and niece Alison Feldman.
In lieu of flowers and stepping stones, memorials are requested in Sue's name for glioblastoma cancer research.
