Sue, a 1954 graduate of Newark High School, died peacefully at Mt. Carmel St. Ann's on Thursday, July 10, 2025, after overcoming and fighting many challenges in the past several years. She was born in Newark, Ohio on November 29, 1936, to the late Philip R. Denman and Ruth (Ankrum) Denman-Speaks, owners of Independent Dairy.
Sue served many roles throughout her professional career, beginning in the restaurant business working alongside her husband at the L&K Restaurant. She eventually transitioned into the medical field, becoming a receptionist and office manager for pediatricians, Dr. Sylvester and Dr. Petersilge. Upon their retirement, Sue finished her career at Hospice of Central Ohio working in medical records for 15 years.
In her spare time, Sue's real passion and top priority was to raise her children and she happily supported their many sporting activities and music endeavors. She volunteered in their elementary school library, was a room mother, and served as a Girl Scout leader. Sue was also a member and past president of the LMH Twig Gift Shop.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Laura Vanoy (Gregory Quick), Steven (Kimberly) Vanoy, Philip Vanoy, and Thomas Vanoy (Nancy Doman); grandchildren, Emma Vanoy (Cameron Hollander), Max Vanoy, and Michael Vanoy; niece and nephew, Julie McNulty and Greg (Monica) Crist; and several cousins.
In addition to her parents and stepfather, Taylor Speaks, Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Vanoy; son, Lawrence Vanoy; brother, William G. (Lucille Crist) Denman; niece, Deborah Denman Delgaudio; and nephew-in-law, Randy McNulty.
The family requests memorials in Sue's name be made to Hospice of Central Ohio Foundation, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.
